Since its inauguration in 2003, the Quail Hollow Championship has quickly become one of the top events on the PGA TOUR.

The TOUR heads to North Carolina for the Quail Hollow Championship at the Quail Hollow Golf Club. Located at 3700 Gleneagles Road in Charlotte, North Carolina, Quail Hollow Club is one of the finest courses in the Southeast United States. The private member club hosted the Kemper Open from 1969 to 1979 and has more recently been the site of a Senior PGA TOUR event hosted by club member Arnold Palmer.

The course was originally designed by famed golf course architect George Cobb in 1961 to capture the beauty as well as challenging terrain of the Piedmont region. In the intervening years, the course underwent a series of improvements, including modifications of several holes by Arnold Palmer in 1986 and a redesign by Tom Fazio in 1997 and 2003.

Throughout the course, exquisitely manicured greens follow the unusual contours of the hills to present a challenge to even the sharpest short game. Course highlights include hole #7, which is transected by a serpentine pond complete with waterfall and rock wall; hole #10, one of four Par 5 holes, a winding 591-yard fairway lined with giant trees and tufted bunkers; signature hole #17, 217 yards over water; and, for a suitably challenging finish, hole #18, which must be negotiated over a deep creek bed that runs the length of the fairway.

Quail Hollow Club Brief History

On April 13, 1959, James J. Harris hosted a meeting at Morrocroft Farm that marked the formal beginning of Quail Hollow Club. On December 18, 1959, the 21 Founders of the club executed the club's Certificate of Incorporation, which was filed on January 4, 1960 to officially constitute the Quail Hollow Club. The first 90 members of the club were designated its Charter Members.

His alignment corrected, Lucas Glover’s 3-under-par 69 was good enough to get into a playoff, where he beat former Clemson teammate Jonathan Byrd for his first victory since capturing the 2009 U.S. Open. Glover converted dicey par saves at 16 and 17, before things got really interesting at the par-4 18th. The South Carolina native hooked his tee shot into the 2011 Quail Hollow Club crowd, where his ball came to rest against a spectator’s back pocket alongside a steep slope. Given free relief, the ball broke free down the hill just as Glover was getting ready to stand over it.

Rory Mcllroy is the new Quail Hollow Champion 2010. The new star shining bright is Northern Ireland’s Rory Mcllroy. He became the youngest player to win the Quail Hollow Championship 2010 . He scored a fiery course record of 10-under-par 62. Rory Mcllroy who earned $ 1.17 million for his winning performance stated that he was seeing is shots and kept hitting it and seeing the lines of putts really well. It was just one of the days when everything went right.

Mcllroy who will turn 21 this Tuesday became the youngest golfer to lift the winner’s trophy at PGA Tour after Tiger Woods who won the championship when he also was 20, in 1996. The victory is recorded as the second official victory of Mcllroy after Dubai’s Desert Classic on the European Tour.
